Inside Pockets

Yesterday I was working with some beautiful mix colours material I bought recently. It is an amazing colour! Well, I think so anyway. It’s a wool mix and really soft to the touch. I have had to use a sew in interfacing though as it wasn’t keeping it’s shape as well as denim does. I love the look though. 

  I just couldn’t resist and had to have some. I’ve already used some of it on two of the bags I was working on yesterday. One is a messenger bag (bottom, left) and the other is a shoulder bag (bottom, right). 
I also love the little elephant embroidery. I got some of those last week and sewed them onto a little book and purse-set which I had made especially collection for this year (2010).
The problem now, is that I’ve run out of strap so I can’t finish off the bags. I’ve done as much as I can and now they’re just lying there waiting. I know, I know, it wasn’t very good planning but I went to buy some yesturday, but the shop had run out as well. I’ve now ordered a whole roll so hopefully it will last a little while. I’ll take pictures when I’ve finished them and you can tell me what you think.

Patchwork dan Quilt

Memahami perbedaan Patchwork dan Quilt.

Patchwork adalah kerajinan yang menggabungkan potongan-potongan kain perca satu dengan lainnya dan bermiliki motif atau warna yg berbeda-beda lalu menjadi suatu bentuk baru. Patchwork adalah seni tradisional yg berasal dari orang-orang Eropa yg pertaman kali menempati dan mendiami Amerika Serikat, karena berada pada posisi minim dan kesulitan mendapatkan material, maka mereka memanfaatkan sisa-sisa dari kain-kain yg rusak atau tidak bisa dipakai dengan mengguntingnya lalu dijadikan bentuk yg dapat dimanfaatkan kembali, termasuk selimut. Tetapi perkembangan patchwork tidak hanya menghasilkan selimut bermacam-macam dibuat dari guntingan kain-kain yg dijadikan satu sehingga menghasilkan seperti hiasan dinding,lukisan,dan lain-lainnya.


Quilt adalah kerajinan yg seluruhnya dijahit dengan memakai teknik tusuk tindas,begitu pula dengan patchwork sebagai salah satu aplikasi yg dapat digunakan dalam quilt. Pembuatan quilt membutuhkan dua lembar kain katun dan selembar kain pelapis yang disebut dakron yg tidak terlalu tebal. Kain katun pertama disebut top.Top biasanya diaplikasi dari beberapa beberapa macam kain-kain dan beragam warna-warna dari kin tersebut yg telah dibuat berupa design seperti gambar bunga,absrak, binantang dan design-design lainnya atau dapat juga diaplikasikaan patchwork.

Pacthwork atau piece of work adalah menggabungkan beberapa potongan kain menjadi bentuk lain, bentuk bunga, binatang, bentuk geometri dan lainnya. Munkin jaman dulu nenek kita menamainya kain gombal , karena gabungan kain-kain itu berasal dari potongan kain perca sisa menjahit baju. Dan setelah potongan potongan kain tersebut digabungkan  kemudian diquilting.
